Q&A

A: Approximately 15% of our students are externals. There is car parking for students, however there are a limited number of spaces, therefore it is on a first come first served basis. We do have Sixth Form sports teams and opportunities for Sports Leadership across the school.

A: We run a transition day in June for every subject where all students can experience a selection of subjects and a typical 6th form day. This would normally be a live event. Additionally we have inductions for external students and have members of our 6th form council whose role it is to provide support to them during their transition.

A: We don’t have set number of places and are always able to cater for all external applicants

A: Yes, if you already see them in lessons.  If not, please email using the staff email addresses which are on the virtual open evening page and in the prospectus.

A: Absolutely, vocational qualifications are highly regarded at this sixth form.  We are very proud of the achievements of our students studying BTECs.  I’m happy to speak to you if you contact the school or please view my video about vocational qualifications at QEGS.  Ms Morgan.

A: Both of these subjects have performed extremely well for a number of years.  Consistently good results.  We have very healthy numbers taking the course and many go on to study the subject further.

A: Hopefully the information on the website today will help you with this, but you should choose subjects you are interested in and enjoy. All QEGS students will get a careers interview this year and guidance in ‘World of Work Wednesday’ in form time to help you decide

A: Yes, you do need to select something from every block. You have a core programme of 3 A levels or a combination of BTEC and A level, plus 2 additional options. You have to choose study skills and then one other option from Block E.

A: Yes you can choose 4 A Levels from block A to D; you will then need to select study skills in block E, this is something all students need to take at QEGS Sixth Form. It is not a qualification and does not involve any exams.

A: Yes, that’s fine, but you would need to an additional option from that block or block E to make up the learning hours.

A: It all depends on the subject.  For some subjects this is possible because the AS content is covered in the first year.  But this isn’t the case for all subjects. Please contact the subject lead to check.

A: All courses normally run but in the rare case that numbers are extremely low then we would have to review whether the course would run or not.

A: Yes, your core course of study would be Business BTEC and then you would need to select study skills and an option from the E block.

A: It depends on the subject, please contact the department subject lead to check.

A: The demands of level 3 courses are reflected in the entry requirements and it is not always in the student’s best interests for us to lower the entry criteria. We cannot reduce or change the content or assessments as these are controlled by the exam board. However, I would certainly recommend that an application is completed as we can arrange a meeting to discuss possible options and support which could be put in place.

We will review each student’s application on an individual basis and will consider the students circumstances when providing advice and making decisions which are always in their best interests. We want all students to be successful in the subjects they choose, therefore our advice and support will reflect this.

A: The options aren’t ‘fixed’ until you have your results next summer. You can switch as long as you meet the entry requirements for the alternative course.
