The Local Governing Body consists of two committees

The Curriculum Committee
Mr Marcus Caton is the Chair of the Curriculum Committee.
The Curriculum Committee is tasked with monitoring tracking and evaluating rates of progress by all students and ensuring that a broad and balanced curriculum is available and accessible to all students.

The Wellbeing Committee
Mr Paul Oakes is the Chair of the Wellbeing Committee.
The Wellbeing Committee is tasked with monitoring tracking and evaluating behaviour, attendance and general well-being of all students. Ensuring Safeguarding is complied with and managed effectively for Students and Staff and monitoring performance of staff and other HR matters.

Marcus is a Foundation governor representing the Old Trust. Originally from Australia, Marcus married an old Ashburnian and now lives locally with his wife and three children who all attend a local primary school. Marcus has worked in education for over 20 years and currently is the Head of Sixth Form at The Long Eaton School.
Marcus is the Chair of the Curriculum Committee.

Sally was elected Parent Governor in January 2019. She is also a co-opted Governor of Clifton C of E Primary School. She attended QEGS herself and now has has two sons at the school. She has worked in education, both overseas and in the UK, for over 20 years as a Modern Foreign Languages teacher and subject leader.

Duncan moved to Ashbourne to be Rector of the Ashbourne Group of Churches and Area Dean of Carsington at the beginning of 2017. He studied Pure Physics at Sheffield university and began his working life with the National institute for the Blind, later setting up his own company working with deaf blind adults and children. His then became a vicar, studying at Llandaff in Cardiff, and now enjoys life immensely with his wife and three dogs, terrorising the local walkers! Duncan is also Governor of Clifton primary school, and has a special interest in disability, looked after children, and everyone on the edges of society. The Rev Duncan Ballard is a Church Appointed Governor.

Cheryl is a Staff Governor (Support Staff), elected by staff in October 2018. Cheryl has worked at the school since 2009 and is currently the Exams Officer. Cheryl also has two children at QEGS.

Mr Garrity is now in the 21st year of his career in education which has included teaching and leading teams in Merseyside and Cheshire, eventually arriving at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Ashbourne Derbyshire, in 2002. Following a succession of promotions he was appointed as Headteacher in February 2016. He feels proud and privileged to lead QEGS in the next chapter of its journey. Mr Garrity attends all Governor Meetings, Standing and Sub Committee Meetings.

Phil joined the governing body as a community governor in 2018. He has worked and studied in education for over thirty years, as a secondary teacher and school leader, Local Authority adviser, and university tutor and course leader. Phil has been a governor at Ashbourne Primary School since 2008, including four years as chair. His two children have attended primary and secondary schools in Ashbourne and his daughter is in the sixth form at QEGS.
