Year 12 and 13 English Trip

This week, our Year 12 and 13 English students had the fantastic opportunity to visit the University of Derby for a series of engaging and thought-provoking lectures. The day provided valuable insight into university-level English studies, broadening students’ understanding of key topics and texts.

The sessions covered a range of fascinating subjects, including an in-depth exploration of Atonement by Ian McEwan, a discussion on the works of Thomas Hardy, and an analysis of regional variation in language. Students were also introduced to Australian English, gaining an appreciation for how language evolves in different cultural and geographical contexts.

The trip was an enriching experience, sparking lively debate and deepening students’ appreciation of English literature and language. Many left feeling inspired by the topics covered and more confident about the possibilities of studying English at university.

A huge thank you to the University of Derby for hosting such an insightful day!
