Remembrance 2024
All students at QEGS have participated in acts of Remembrance to commemorate soldiers, their families and civilians affected by war during assemblies. We have had the privilege of listening to stories from Mr Simon Mahoney, Ashbourne Royal British Legion committee member on the importance of remembrance. We have also had the great pleasure of Mr Ewart, His Majesty the King’s representative, the Deputy Lieutenant of Derbyshire and branch president of Ashbourne Royal British Legion in leading us through the Act of Remembrance and a 2-minute silence. Students have been very respectful during this time and have thought about all the people and their families who have suffered or are suffering as a result of conflict.
On Sunday staff and students from QEGS participated in the Remembrance Parade and service at St Oswald’s Church. The parade left the Market Place at 10.15 and it was wonderful to see so many of our current and past students in attendance.
On Monday 11th November Year 11 and Sixth Form students had their Act of Remembrance during assembly time. At 11am, at the time of the Armistice, the school participated in a service with the community at the memorial gates, followed by a short service back in school by our war memorials. We reflected on the importance of remembrance, honouring the sacrifices of those who came before us and continue to make them today.
We will remember them!
