QEGS students succeed against all the odds (Post-16 Results 2020)

Post-16 Results Day 2020

2020 will be a year to remember for so many reasons around the world. Despite a global pandemic and changes to all of our lives for many years to come, for the majority of 18 year olds, 2020 will simply be the year they finished sixth form and achieved fantastic grades in their courses. QEGS students have defied all of the challenges and achieved amazing results once again.

Following the decision in March to cancel this year’s summer examinations, the past few months have been a real emotional rollercoaster for our students, facing unprecedented and uncertain times; they were denied their usual rites of passage such as sitting exams, a leavers’ day and all of the celebrations associated with the end of school and the beginnings of the next stage of their lives. Throughout these months, our QEGS Sixth Formers have been a credit to themselves and to the school; remaining calm, resilient and focused on their dreams and aspirations.

Once again, QEGS students are celebrating fantastic results, with nearly all securing a route to their intended destination. The majority of Yr13 students are going to university, having received confirmation of either their firm or insurance place including 3 students gaining entry to Oxbridge Universities. Some students have secured apprenticeships and are about to embark on an exciting new career. There are also some students who are looking to progress their gap year plans; making the most of this time to enhance their skills and experience in their chosen field. These successes are a testament to the hard work, perseverance and commitment of our students and staff.

Some of our students have waited to consider and review their next steps, keeping their options open. Our teaching and careers staff will provide comprehensive support and guidance to support our students in the making the right decisions for their future. There will always be some students who had hoped to achieve slightly higher grades and we hope that these students will benefit from the very recent government announcement of the ‘triple lock’ option of securing their best grades for progression. With more details to follow from the exam regulation board next week, our staff will keep in touch with our students to help them achieve the best possible outcomes.

We feel very proud and honoured to have known each and every one of the students in Yr13. Congratulations, you did it!
