QEGS Sixth Formers succeed again

We are really pleased with our results this year and we are proud of the achievements of our Sixth Form students. The vast majority of our students met or exceeded the entry criteria for their chosen university or apprenticeship course with almost 90% of our UCAS applicants securing a place with their first or second choice university and the remaining students planning to secure a place via clearing today.

Our students have studied through some of the most challenging times in education, which makes their performance in these exams even more impressive. It is for this reason that we are celebrating the success and hard work of our students and teachers today.

A Level Results:

Some highlights from this year’s results include:

  • 40% of our A Level students gained at least one A* or A grade.
  • Our average points per entry is 38 (compared to 36 in 2023), expressed as a grade this means the average grade for a student is a B-.
  • 99.7% pass rate in all A-Level courses – fantastic!

Vocational/Technical Results:

  • 100% pass rate in all BTEC courses.
  • 89% of all BTEC students achieved at least one Distinction or D* in their BTEC Qualifications which is an increase from the 79% that achieved this in 2023.
  • Average points score (per candidate) of 37 up from 36 in 2023 which means, expressed as a grade, the average grade a student achieved is a Distinction *. An incredible standard and achievement.

A great year for our students and we are justifiably proud of the fantastic results they have achieved.

Amazing individual results:

The 2024 QEGS A Level results are impressive, with many amazing individual results; led by Louis De Sousa who achieved 4 A*’s, Annie Whitehouse who achieved 3 A*’s and an A* in her EPQ, May Phelan and James Moore who both achieved  3 A*’s and an A grade, Grace Kirk who achieved 3 A*’s, Bella Mills,  Elliot Holbrook and Edward Smith who all achieved 2 A*’s and 2 A’s,  Daisy Jasper who achieved A*, A, A alongside an A* in her EPQ, Roisin Martin and Imogen Scotcher who both achieved A*, A, A and Katie Hancock who achieved A*, A*, B and an A in Core Maths. Students also excelled in their Vocational and BTEC courses with some of the best and most impressive results to date for these subjects. In the Extended Diploma courses, Triple Distinction Stars (D*D*D*) were awarded to Grace Young for BTEC Sport, Kamil Cichocki and Emily Wakefield for BTEC Business. Ross Arnold achieved a D* for BTEC Creative Digital Media alongside an A* in both A-Level PE and Business Studies and an A in EPQ. Isabel Torpey achieved D*, D* for her Art and Design BTEC alongside achieving an A* in her EPQ and a C in English Literature and Matt Hancox achieved D*, D*, D in BTEC Sport.

58% of all our entries were graded A*-B, which is an exceptional achievement.

All these students will be proceeding to university courses, apprenticeships and careers related to the skills and expertise they have developed because of their Sixth Form studies; exciting times ahead!

The students who have exceeded their target grades and have made the most progress from their GCSE’s were Edward Carroll, Anna Poyser and Imogen Wilcox-Jones. A huge well done to these students for their incredible work ethic and subsequent achievements.

Scott Garrity, Headteacher said: “I am truly humbled by the achievements of our students after they have faced some of the most difficult years of their education and teenage lives. This cohort were the first to sit GCSE exams after COVID and have now faced the new updated (back to 2019) grade boundaries for A Levels and BTECs. To achieve these grades, even better than 2023, is simply staggering. Students, parents and QEGS staff – please celebrate, you have earned it!”

Louise Allen, Head of Sixth Form said: “I would like to congratulate all of our Sixth Formers on their achievements today. As a Sixth Form Team we are incredibly proud of the ambitious, hardworking and fantastic young people our students have become. Throughout their two years with us, our Year 13 students have demonstrated more than just their grade potential and have consistently showcased their resilience, enthusiasm, community spirit and an abundance of energy and character, all of which mean they will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. It has been an absolute pleasure to be part of this cohort’s journey, and we wish them all the very best with their exciting next steps in life. We would also like to thank our post 16 teaching staff and tutors who have worked tirelessly to ensure that our students are well supported and prepared for their final assessments and subsequent destinations.”

As part of QEGSMAT, Anne Martin the CEO, sends her congratulations to all the QEGS students for their incredible achievements. Thank you to the teachers and staff who have worked to support the students at QEGS, in particular Year 13. These outcomes reflect everyone’s commitment, hard work and positive attitudes. Anne wishes the students all the very best in the next chapter of their lives.

Needless to say, this same set of teachers and tutors are on hand today and this week and will be happy to help should any of our students need any advice. We also look forward to hearing the success stories over the coming years.

Our vision remains. We care; therefore, we question, we explore, we give and we succeed together.

To ‘be the best you can possibly be’ takes more than just academic success. Students need to be happy, with a healthy body and mind and we hope that QEGS has helped play a part in our students pursuing happy and successful lives in the future.
