Our Sixth Form ranked in the top 7%

QEGS Sixth Form ranked in the top 7% nationally for student progress!

The news that our Sixth Form has been ranked in the top 7% nationally for student progress in 2024 post-16 provision fills me full of pride as Head of Sixth Form. Last summer’s A-level results demonstrate that we enhance student progress by nearly one-third of a grade beyond expectations based on GCSE performance; this increases to half a grade for vocational subjects. Religious Studies, Physics, and Chemistry are particularly noteworthy, although 85% of our subjects surpass the national average for student progress. This achievement builds upon our Sixth Form’s long history of exceptional Key Stage 5 results, including our 2019 “East Midlands State School of the Year” award.  Despite the challenges of post-Covid educational recovery, our dedicated teachers provide engaging lessons and support sessions, fostering student passion for their subjects. Our comprehensive support network includes a dedicated KS5 Learning Coach offering individual support and guidance, addressing academic needs and future aspirations.  Specialised support is also available for SEN students. While we are proud of these results, our PSHE program remains central to preparing students for their post-results endeavours.  In today’s competitive landscape, equipping students with life skills transcends academic achievement.

Mr Garrity, Headteacher said “I am immensely proud of the students and staff for this achievement from the 2024 results. Now that the national data is in and the analysis complete, we have achieved better than we have ever done before. On average, QEGS sixth form students achieved a third to half a grade higher than their already aspirational targets in 2024. A comprehensive school with top class performance for its students, competing and beating some of the best schools in the country. Mr Walker and the sixth form team continue to work tirelessly to support and champion our students, giving the best education and preparation for life beyond QEGS. Well done everyone #TeamQEGS!!
