EAST MIDLANDS STATE SECONDARY SCHOOL OF THE YEAR
Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Ashbourne has won The Sunday Times East Midlands State Secondary School of the Year award. This is the first time the state school has featured in the top 10 regional league, ranking fifth, with 70.5% of its exams at A-level achieved grades A*-B and GCSE results of A*/A/9/8/7 grades at 27.7%.
We are so proud and honoured to be recognised in this prestigious national publication of the 2000 highest achieving schools in the country. To be awarded the East Midlands State School winner for 2019 is testament to everything our staff and students believe in and work hard to achieve. Whilst we are proud of our top grades, we are proud of all of our grades and the holistic approach to the education we offer.
At QEGS, we value education in the broadest sense; with sport, the arts, enterprise, performance, employability skills, competition, cultural school visits and many other amazing opportunities taking equal standing with academic success. Our staff and students are fantastic and deserve everything this award stands for.
I am proud and privileged to be the headteacher of such a successful and supportive educational community with a long-standing and fantastic heritage. Our vision is to provide high quality learning, where every day we expect to see students and staff Questioning, Exploring, Giving and Succeeding now and in the future.
