‘An incredible year of results and successes for students and staff at QEGS’

An amazing set of A Level and Post-16 results for students and staff at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School. Ranked 1st in Derbyshire in 2014 based on 976 average points per candidate, this year QEGS have achieved their highest ever points total with 1037 average QCA points for each student. The number of students with top grades has also increased dramatically with 62% of students achieving at least one A*/A grade. The majority of students are successfully placed at a university of their choice or are entering employment. For those requiring advice, Head of Sixth Form Mrs Barbara Smith and Assistant Head of Sixth Form Mr Matt Atkins, are available in school.

There were individual and collective successes throughout. In Art over three quarters of the cohort achieved Cambridge Technical Distinctions, in Further Maths over half of the students achieved A* or A grades. In Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Economics, English Literature, English Language, Maths and Physics at least a third of the grades were A* or A, an outstanding achievement for students and their teachers.

As ever, there were some amazing individual results led by Danielle Watson, Elena Taylor and Daniel Hollins with four top graded exam results (3x A* and 1x A grade), clearly a magnificent achievement. George Moss attained a set of four A*/A grades (2x A* and 2x A) and Caspar Tynan one A* and four A grades. Three top grades were awarded to Ben Woods, Francesca Williams, Harry Bardell, Fran Carey, Melissa John, Harriet Elvins, Barnaby Glover, Georgia Griffiths, Thomas Linley, Amy Poynton, Gloria Yeh and Lee Yeomans. Danny Yates and Gabriel Shannon both achieved Double Distinction*'s and and an A grade. Moira Letby attained Distinction * Distinction and an A grade. Jack Bointon and Lewis Bailey also achieve Distinction*, Distinction *, Distinction. Of the 95 students who sat Level 3 qualifications this year, 62% gained at least one A* or A grade, an impressive outcome.

The Lower Sixth AS level results were also strong and the high standard augurs well for next year. Remarkably, Ellen Bifani, Jack Bramwell, Amelia Brennan, Jack Coates, Jonathon Denny, Louise Edge, George Macdonald, Max Manley, Oliver Sadler and Oak Watson all achieved four A grades aside from General Studies. Harvey Cash, Emily Hampson, Olivia Johns, Joshua Lomas, Benjo Lourie, Grace Millman, James Toms and Harriet Ward three A grades. Strong subject performances were evident in a number of areas, most notably Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Economics, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, German, History, Maths and RS.

All of the teaching and non-teaching staff congratulated the students on their successes and wished them the very best for the future. Our best year of results to date, well done to all and thank you.
