    Jun 2015 - Year 11 Transition Days

We are offering additional opportunities to help you prepare for life in QEGS sixth form. You will be given information on what to expect in the sixth form and gain an insight into skills that are essential for being successful at this higher level of study. It will also give you the chance to think about your chosen subjects and discuss these options ensuring they are the right choices for you.

Wednesday 24th June – Life in the sixth form

During this hour, you will find out: what you can expect from us and what we expect from you; aspects of sixth form life and how to make the most of your time in sixth form.

    P2 and P3

You will attend three sessions on: organisation and time management, reading skills and note taking skills. During a fourth session you will have the chance to ask questions with Year 12 students.

    P4 and P5

You will have an opportunity to find out more about the enrichment options available in the sixth form from enrichment staff and some of our Year 12 students. We aim to finalise your choices at this meeting.

    Thursday 25th June – ‘Drop-in’

Meet the teachers (and students). This is an optional day, where you will have the opportunity to go and speak to staff (and students) about any subject specific queries you have. This helps you consider which subjects are definitely right for you and find out a bit more in an informal setting. This will enable you to get the most out of the ‘lessons’ on 10th July. Please note that you can only change your subject choice(s) after meeting Mrs Smith to ensure the switch is viable. Mrs Smith, Mr Atkins and Mrs Norbury will be available if you need any further advice. You can access a timetable of subject teachers/rooms at the sixth form centre on Wednesday 24th June. You will also receive your programme of lessons for Friday 10th July.

Friday 10th July – Subject transition

Further to earlier correspondence, you will be timetabled for a lesson in each of your chosen subjects. You will meet your teachers and begin work, enabling you to get off to a swift and successful start to your A-level studies in September. Further independent work will be set, to be completed before term starts in September. As Enrichment has now been covered on an earlier day, you will finish at the earlier time of 2.20pm.

Thursday 20th August – GCSE Results Day

Mrs Smith, Mr Atkins and Mrs Norbury will be available on results day to advise you if you haven’t made the entry criteria for your chosen subjects, or if you wish to make a change to your options in light of your results.

    Friday 21st August 9.00am-1.00pm

Again, the team will be available for advice. If you wish to change your options, you need to make an appointment; a sign-up sheet will be found outside the main hall on results day. Or you can email Mrs Smith at smith@queenelizabeths.derbyshire.sch.uk.

Good luck with your remaining exams and we look forward to welcoming you into the sixth form soon.
