May 2015 - Success again in the National Physics Olympiad

Once more, in the spring term some of the most enthusiastic and dedicated Physics students at QEGS were invited to work towards and enter the British Physics Olympiad Challenge papers for Y11 and Y12.

The students spent a series of Monday lunchtimes discussing and tackling some extremely interesting and challenging Physics problems under the guidance of Mr Metcalf and Danielle Watson, an outstanding Y13 Physics A ‘level student.

All the students who took the Challenge papers can be proud of their performance as all gained at least a commendation on what will be one of the toughest examinations of their ability that they will face in their academic career.

However, special mention should go to the medalists. In Year 12, Elliot Brown and Luke Jack earned Bronze II awards, Harvey Cash a Bronze I and Oliver Sadler achieved a Silver medal putting him in the top 250 students in the country for AS Physics.

Even more spectacular, was the performance of Oliver Reed, a Y10 QEGS Physics student who, with his Silver medal in the Y11 challenge, is rated amongst the top 250 Physicists at GCSE nationally, having only completed just over half his GCSE course.
