Uniform and PE Kit
A number of parents have contacted the school recently to discuss concerns about the cost, quality and availability of our current school uniform. In a bid to address these issues we have decided to change the supplier of our uniform and improve its appearance. In September 2013 we intend to introduce a new uniform as follows:

Boys
Grey blazer with school badge, black trousers with school badge, white shirt, school tie incorporating house colours and black v-neck sweater (optional) with school badge. For PE: black shorts, outdoor reversible games top, akoa polo shirt and sector hoodie. All sportswear except socks will incorporate the school badge.
Girls
Grey blazer with school badge, black skirt or trousers with school badge (skirts must only be worn with black tights), white shirt, school tie incorporating house colours and black v-neck sweater (optional) with school badge. For PE: black court skort, akoa polo shirt and sector hoodie. All sportswear except socks will incorporate the school badge.

Although the PE hoodie may not be worn generally around school, it may be worn during residential school trips, removing the need to purchase expensive trip specific hoodies, as is currently the case.
The new uniform will be available for parents to view throughout this academic year during parent consultations and review days.
Cost has been a primary consideration for us, and we appreciate that not all of our students will need new uniform in September. It is our intention therefore to introduce the changes over a two year period, with all Y7-11 students wearing the new uniform by September 2015. The uniform for the Sixth Form is currently under review and details will be published separately, in due course.
Parents of existing students wishing to purchase the new uniform during the
2013/14 academic year however, may do so at a promotional price. Uniform
packs containing a blazer, skirt or trousers and a tie will cost:
Junior sizes (blazer up to 36” chest) - £32
Senior sizes (blazer 38” chest and above) - £38
We believe this represents excellent value as the average cost of these items from our current supplier is approximately £55.
The new uniform will be available to purchase from 1st July 2013 on-line: www.trutexmeir.com, or from a mobile shop which will visit the QEGS site once a regular basis. Further information regarding this will be issued in due course.
We firmly believe a smart and appropriate school uniform improves the discipline and reputation of the school and hope to receive your full support in introducing changes that will benefit the school, its students and our parents.
HAIRSTYLES: No extreme hairstyles. Hair must not be cut too short or with tramlines or patterns. Heads must not be shaved either fully or in part. In certain lessons, long hair must be tied back for safety reasons. Dyed hair - only full head or highlights in natural hair colours. No blocks of colour.
MAKE-UP: Make-up and nail varnish should be discrete
JEWELLERY: No jewellery except for one plain stud in each earlobe in the case of pierced ears. NO other piercings are allowed. A wrist watch may be worn.
SCHOOL BAGS: School bags should be practical and large enough to hold an A4 folder. No handbags.
Aprons for practical subjects are available to hire or purchase from the relevant department
ALL clothing must be clearly marked with student's name

Boys - Clothing
- Navy blue blazer with school badge and house badge
- Black trousers
- White or light blue shirt
- School tie
- Black leather type shoes. NO trainers, pumps, sandals or boots. Socks should be plain black or grey.
- In cold weather a V-necked navy blue sweater/jumper may be worn under blazers. No cardigans.
- A plain, warm, weatherproof outdoor coat. NO 'hoodies'.
Girls Clothing
- Navy blue blazer
- Black tailored trousers made from a woven material which can hold a crease, and with a side seam. NO lycra, leggings or wide belts. Not low fitting at the hips.
- Plain knee length black skirt. No pleats or splits and not tight fitting.
- White or light blue shirt. NO blouses.
- School tie
- Black shoes of plain style with low heels. NO trainers, pumps, sandals or boots. Black or neutral tights or black or grey socks.
- In cold weather a V-necked navy blue sweater/jumper may be worn under blazers. No cardigans.
- A plain, warm, weatherproof outdoor coat. NO 'hoodies'.

PE KIT
PE KIT IS SUPPLIED BY SCHOOL TRENDS.
A compulsory kit is required for students to unify classes and ensure all students are suitably dressed for all lessons. Students are taught a wide range of sports ranging from cross country to gymnastics. Obviously lessons take place in a variety of environments such as the muddy fields to the warm gym! The PE Department suggest that students are equipped with the following items;
BOYS
- Navy Track pants
- Blue Shorts
- QEGS Polo shirt / t-shirt (if you child is particularly sporty and likely to be joining clubs we would suggest you order 2)
- Red/white reversible Rugby shirt
- Red sports socks
- White ankle socks
- Trainers
- Football Boots
GIRLS
- Navy Track pants
- Blue shorts

There are 2 styles available, Classic and 110, which you choose is purely down to individual taste.
SIZES
Most year 7 students wear XS or S sizes with the exception of rugby shirts where a size 34/36 is more popular.
