    Historical Fiction at QEGS

    Jul 2017 - Historical Fiction at QEGS

    On the 4th and 5th of July QEGS welcomed year 5 students from Biggin, Osmaston, Long Lane, Sudbury, Parwich, Kirk Ireton and Longford to the first QEGS Historical Fiction day. The students were able to learn about different periods in history (Including Ancient Egypt, the Middle Ages, The Victorians and WWII) and then turn what they learnt into their own pieces of historical fiction.

    British Physics Olympiad Awards Ceremony

    Jul 2017 - British Physics Olympiad Awards Ceremony

    During the summer term this year one of our year 12 students, Oliver Reed was invited to the British Physics Olympiad Awards ceremony at the Royal Society in London. Oliver, accompanied by Mr Metcalf (Curriculum Leader of Physics) and his parents Paul and Sophia, was rewarded for being one of the top four students in the UK for the AS (Year 12) competition.

    Weather for Friday's Sports Day is currently "warm with sunshine and perhaps scattered showers. breezier and much fresher for Friday, but mainly dry" so please prepare your child for warm and/or cool eventualities!

    A decision will be made on the day, but the likelihood is it will go ahead.

    Last year we began to help the above charity by sending a selection of books from the English department. This year we involved students, staff and parents. Illiteracy is a big problem in South Africa and their schools are in desperate need of resources; particularly reading books and text books.

    Dutch Teachers in Training Visit QEGS

    May 2017 - Dutch Teachers in Training Visit QEGS

    From the 27th of March until the 7th of April 2017, Janet and Mary – two Dutch teachers in training – visited QEGS to complete a part of their international teacher training at the school. Janet and Mary both have a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in the English Language and Literature and now take part in Leiden University’s World Teachers Programme, a specialised track of the university’s Master of Education. The World Teachers Programme is geared towards bilingual and international education.

    A huge congratulations to our Young Enterprise Team, ‘UpRevolution’, who were the runners up in the area final which took place on 26/04/2017. They also picked up the awards for best teamwork and best presentation.

    The team has done fantastically well throughout the competition and did themselves and QEGS proud. Well done to all involved.

    Last week 7 A level French Students from QEGS spent a week working in French schools. Five Students worked in "Ecoles maternelles" (Nursery schools for children aged 2 to 6) whilst 2 Students worked in a "College" (Secondary School for pupils aged 11 to 15).

    On Christmas Eve, 63 students and 8 members of staff from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School returned after a week skiing in Alpe d’Huez. It was an incredible experience for all involved and the students were praised by the bus drivers, hotel staff and ski instructors for being polite, responsible and a lot of fun!

    QEGS portal is our new online platform allowing parents and carers to access their child’s progress reports.

    To activate your account simply visit www.qegs.link/portal, click on the ‘Forgotten Password’ link, enter the email address we have stored for you and you will then receive an email allowing you to set a password.

    The first coffee morning of this academic year will be held on Friday 14th October at 9.30am.
    The focus for the morning will be:

    • Expectations with regard to subjects’ marking and feedback
    • The reporting of student progress to parents
    Staff, including Mr Harding (Assistant Headteacher) and Mr Tuck (Creative Technologist) will be available to inform parents with regard to the two areas outlined above.
