    Parent Governor Election

    Jun 2018 - Parent Governor Election

    We are pleased to announce the results of the new parent governor elections held. Miss Tumi Kekana has been newly elected and Mr Colin Smith has been elected for a second term.     Race for Life 2018

    Jun 2018 - Race for Life 2018

    QEGS Race for Life is back this year! On Wednesday 11th July our students will run, jog, or walk 5km in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Over the last two years we have raised almost £6000.

    Congratulations to all students, staff, parents and the wider community. The report from our recent Ofsted inspection on 26th April 2018 is now available. We are really proud and pleased that Ofsted endorsed and confirmed our own judgements of our school.

    May 2018 - CHICKS

    A team of our A level Creative Digital Media students are working with the charity CHICKS to raise money towards their crowdfunding campaign. The page will be live between the 4th April and the 15th June, aiming to raise £970 for the charity. All money made will be used to take a child from Derbyshire on one of CHICKS’ respite breaks, on which the child will have a break from any issues and problems they face at home.     On Thursday 12th April and Friday 13th April 2018, approximately 1,358 students, 50 parents and 70 members of staff were given access to current mental health and wellbeing advice, thanks to Maz from ‘The Self-Esteem Team’.

    Local Traffic Disruption

    We have been informed that Ashbourne Market Place will be closed to traffic in both directions from 9th - 22nd April 2018. Additionally, temporary one-way traffic restrictions will be in place on King Street and Hall Lane over the same period. More detailed information is available from the link below.

    QEGS has developed a strong working partnership with the University of Derby over recent years and this was strengthened further when ten Year 12 Psychology students completed a week of work experience in The University of Derby’s Psychology department.

    Interhouse Maths Challenge

    Jan 2018 - Interhouse Maths Challenge

    During October we held our Fourth annual Interhouse Maths Challenge with teams of four pupils from each year group and each house competing over 5 hours for the title of Interhouse Maths Champions of 2017-2018. Eighty KS3 and KS4 students took part with 22 sixth form maths pupils supporting the competition on a rolling programme to cover each activity.

    Step into the enchanted world of Broadway's modern classic, Disney's Beauty and the Beast. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

    If you haven't already, to activate your account simply visit www.qegs.link/portal, click on the ‘Register/Activate Login’ link, enter the email address we have stored for you and you will then receive an email allowing you to set a password.

    Many thanks for your understanding of our partial opening arrangements today.

    We were faced with a significant staff shortage issue early this morning (staff travel from Staffs, Cheshire, Notts and north Derbyshire). We knew we had sufficient staffing for most, but not all lessons and so had to act accordingly. Rather than close the whole school we chose to request Yr11 (who had just sat 3 weeks of Mock exams) and Yr12-13 (who have Mock exams in January) to stay at home and use the time for self-supported study/catch up.

    Restart a Heart Day

    Oct 2017 - Restart a Heart Day

    On Monday 16th October over 200 students from Year 9, 10 and 12 were trained in CPR for Restart a Heart Day. The British Heart Foundation have supplied us with a full kit of training equipment and a fabulous team of First Responders from East Midlands Ambulance Service came to school for the day to show our students how to use it. They had a great day at QEGS and said that our students were a pleasure to teach.

    We’re now planning to build on our links with EMAS and use our new kit to train even more students over the next few months.

    The first (relaunched) edition of QEGS Press is now available. We are relaunching the publication this year as a student-led venture with a number of keen sixth form students taking control of its production. We are aiming for 4 issues a year, each based around the themes of Question, Explore, Give and Succeed.

    On Friday 15th September, we were immensely privileged to spend the afternoon with Sir Steve Redgrave, one of Britain’s greatest ever Olympians, who won gold medals for rowing at five consecutive Olympics, and nine gold medals at World Rowing Championships. Sir Steve was in Ashbourne to attend local company Whitehouse Construction’s 40th Anniversary Dinner, but first he met QEGS students for the afternoon...
